The basic treatment of peaches against leaf curl is spraying with copper-based products at the time of bud break. If rainy weather prevails after the trees have budded, we carry out one more spray, at the latest before flowering, with an available organic fungicide.
Spraying against overwintering pests, mainly aphids and scale insects, is carried out from bud break until the beginning of flowering of the individual fruit species. The earliest date is at the stage when the flower buds with a green calyx reach 10 to 15 mm (typical for stone fruit) or the developing leaves reach a length of at least 10 mm (known as the 'mouse ear' stage in apple trees). The latest date is at the stage of white or pink flower buds just before they open. The spray should be thorough and generous, and at the time of spraying the temperature should be above 15 °C.
We carry out the first preventive spray of gooseberries against American gooseberry mildew just before flowering, and the second immediately after flowering has finished.

Clubroot
The disease is caused by the fungus Plasmodiophora brassicae. It thrives mainly in heavy and acidic soils. Plants with affected roots are stunted in growth, turn yellow and often die. The pathogen survives in the soil in the form of so-called resting spores for 4 to 6 years. Protection: Proper crop rotation and application of calcium cyanamide, which must be worked into the soil at least three weeks before planting the brassicas.

Garlic fly (Suillia lurida)
The garlic fly is a fly whose larvae damage winter garlic crops. Affected plants are stunted in growth, the youngest leaves become deformed and gradually die. Protection: Only crops of autumn-planted garlic are treated, especially in areas where the pest occurs regularly. Spraying is carried out immediately after the first warming above 10 °C and repeated after 10 to 14 days. A wetting agent (e.g. Agrovital, DropFor, Silwet) should be added to the spray liquid.

First generation of the codling moth
We intervene against the first generation of the codling moth according to forecasting during the mass hatching of the caterpillars (in the warmest regions usually in the last ten days of May or in the first days of June). It is recommended to repeat the spray after two weeks. The product Exirel is applied already during egg-laying, the bio-product Lepinox Plus at the beginning of caterpillar hatching.
The cherry fruit fly causes maggot infestation of the fruit of later varieties of cherries and sour cherries. Control consists of two or three sprays of the trees at 10-day intervals during the swarming of the adults and at the beginning of egg-laying. In the second half of June it is recommended to hang yellow sticky traps in the crowns of walnut trees to monitor the flight and to catch the walnut husk fly, whose larvae cause the summer blackening of the walnut husk. In mid-June the soil can be treated with the biological product BORA NEW applied as a soil drench followed by shallow incorporation. After this drench, the soil under the walnut trees can be covered with a non-woven fabric so that the adult flies of the pest cannot emerge. We begin chemical control only after detecting the first individuals of the walnut husk fly on the sticky traps (usually in the first days of July). The tree sprays should be repeated at least four times at 10-day intervals and the products should be alternated. To increase the effectiveness of the products, we recommend adding the attractant Combi Protec to the spray solution, which lures the walnut husk flies into the tree crowns.
Depending on the course of the weather, but also on the susceptibility of the cultivated varieties, we treat against all three fungal diseases of roses. Drier weather promotes the occurrence of powdery mildew, whereas heavy rains create ideal conditions for the spread of black spot on the leaves and rose rust. The sprays are repeated at 10- to 14-day intervals.
A hidden pest of gladioli is the gladiolus thrips, because it sucks plant sap from the flower buds even before they open. It causes the most pronounced damage to darker-colored varieties. On their flowers we find tiny whitish spots and black droplets of the pest's excrement. We begin spraying when the plants reach a height of 20 cm and repeat it at 10- to 14-day intervals until the beginning of flowering. A wetting agent should also be added to the spray solution, e.g. Agrovital, Dropfor or Silwet.

Mealybugs, soft scales and armored scales
Mealybugs, soft scales and armored scales all cause damage by sucking plant sap, which significantly weakens the affected plants. They attack various species of indoor and balcony flowers, as well as a wide range of ornamental woody plants. In addition, while feeding they excrete large amounts of sticky honeydew, which on the one hand soils the lower-lying leaves and at the same time serves as a suitable substrate for various species of sooty mold fungi, which form continuous black coatings on the leaves and branches.
We treat tomatoes against late blight (Phytophthora) especially in the case of heavy rainfall. We begin spraying already in the first ten days of June and repeat it at 7- to 10-day intervals. Products approved against late blight are also effective against Septoria leaf spot of tomatoes.
Since greenhouse cucumbers are protected from rain, cucumber downy mildew threatens them less. Among the fungal diseases, they are more likely to be attacked by powdery mildew. We begin spraying after detecting the first symptoms of the disease and, if necessary, repeat it several times at 10-day intervals. Drier air and high temperatures also promote the spread of spider mites.
We begin treating field cucumber stands against cucumber downy mildew in the second ten days of June and repeat the spray several times at 10-day intervals, especially in rainy weather.
We usually begin preventive sprays against potato late blight in the second half of the month and repeat them at 7- to 10-day intervals, especially in rainy weather.
Aphids cause damage not only by sucking plant sap, but also by spreading the agents of viral diseases. Therefore we treat against them as soon as possible after detecting them. The listed products also destroy caterpillars that damage peppers.

The dryness and high temperatures that prevail in greenhouses and polytunnels promote the rapid spread and reproduction of spider mites, which first appear on the underside of the older leaves. Codling moth – 2nd generation
It causes the well-known worminess of fruit. We treat against the second generation of the codling moth according to the forecast in the news on the Floraservis website. Wormy fruit often succumbs to brown rot (Monilia). Only autumn and winter varieties are treated.
The second generation of the pest is much more numerous and damaging than the first. We carry out the treatment according to the forecast. For treating earlier varieties we prefer products with a shorter pre-harvest interval.
In July the second generation of the oriental fruit moth swarms; we treat against it according to the forecast. We treat only the later varieties so as to comply with the prescribed pre-harvest interval of the approved products.
Fungal diseases and leafhoppers – golden yellowing (Flavescence dorée)
In July too we continue treating the grapevine against the most important fungal diseases. Rainy weather promotes the spread of downy mildew and botrytis (grey mould), while warmer weather with heavy morning dews favours the spread of powdery mildew. Detailed instructions for combating leafhoppers – the vectors of grapevine golden yellowing (Flavescence dorée) – can be found by scanning the QR code with your mobile phone.
The larvae of the walnut husk fly cause blackening of the walnut husk (hull). The pest overwinters in the soil in the pupal stage, from which the adult flies hatch from the end of June, so we carry out the first spray of the endangered trees in the first days of July and repeat it 3 to 4 times at 10-day intervals. Karate Zeon and Mospilan are registered against the walnut husk fly, but the products Sanium Ultra and Spintor should also be effective. The effectiveness of these products can be increased by adding the attractant COMBI-PROTEC to the prepared spray liquid, which lures the walnut husk flies into the tree canopies. Adding COMBI-PROTEC does not change the length of the pre-harvest interval of the product used.
With the arrival of lower night temperatures and heavy morning dew, conditions are created for parsley and carrots to be attacked by powdery mildew. We begin spraying immediately after the first symptoms of the disease are detected.
In July, brightly coloured nymphs (larvae) of the southern green stink bug may appear on tomatoes, peppers and beans, as well as on other vegetable species. They cause damage by sucking plant sap, which can significantly spoil especially the fruit of the affected crops. The adult bugs fly well, but the nymphs do not yet have developed wings, so they can be easily located and destroyed. Chemical control of the pest has not yet been developed, but in the event of its overpopulation, products approved against other pests of the affected crop could be used. For tomatoes, for example, Karate Zeon 5 CS, Mospilan 20 SP, Neemazal-T/S, Spintor.

Downy mildew and botrytis (grey mould)
In rainy weather we continue treating the grapevine against the most important fungal diseases. Botrytis (grey mould) causes rotting of the berries, downy mildew infects mainly the leaves, which turn yellow and drop prematurely. The loss of leaf area significantly reduces the quality of the harvest. Powdery mildew now threatens only the late grapevine varieties. During the harvest period we strictly observe the stated pre-harvest intervals.
At the end of summer, late brassicas are threatened by the caterpillars of the cabbage moth and of the large white butterfly. The caterpillars of the cabbage moth are more damaging, because the older ones bore into the heads of cabbage or savoy cabbage and render them completely worthless. That is why we have to act against them shortly after hatching, while they still stay in groups on the underside of the leaves. A wetting agent (Agrovital, Dropfor or Silwet Star) should also be added to the spray liquid. Benevia is applied as early as the egg-laying period.
The second generation of the allium leafminer attacks leek crops. The swarming of the pest usually begins in the second half of August, but it can last until October. We apply the first spray immediately after detecting the puncture marks of the females in the leek leaves and repeat it at ten-day intervals until October. A wetting agent (Agrovital, Dropfor or Silwet Star) should also be added to the spray liquid. Smaller leek beds can also be protected with white non-woven fabric.

Lower night temperatures and heavy morning dew at the end of summer create ideal conditions for it to spread on parsley, carrots and on susceptible species of ornamental plants. We begin spraying immediately after the first symptoms are detected and repeat it according to the course of the weather.
The caterpillars of the box tree moth damage the leaves of box plants. A larger number of caterpillars can consume all the leaves of the infested plants, leaving only the thicker veins. The pest usually has two generations a year, and the young caterpillars of the second generation overwinter in dense white cocoons among the box leaves. We act against the pest as soon as possible after detecting feeding damage or the caterpillars themselves. It is recommended to add a wetting agent (Agrovital, Dropfor or Silwet) to the spray liquid.
